Preparing For Your Intake Session

Relax and get excited! You’re about to smash your competition in the application game. This is a collaborative effort. I know the winning formula and how to position you in the marketplace. You know what you’ve done and the data behind those achievements. Over the years, I have learned the more prepared a client is for our meeting and the more they invest in their career search process, the more they benefit from hiring a professional. Take a moment to prepare for our first onboarding session.

  • Make sure you have a quiet space for your meeting. Treat this appointment like a job interview.

  • Gather supporting documentation. Performance evaluations can be a great help! Take some notes around the things you have done. Specifically the outcomes of those activities. If you did this for the intake survey, you are a step ahead. Speaking of the intake survey, if you have not completed, make sure it’s done 72 hours before our scheduled meeting, to prevent the possibility of a reschedule.

  • Research some job postings that interest you. When reviewing, take interest in the qualifications section (sometimes labeled Minimum Qualifications or Mandatory Qualifications). Can you answer “Yes” to meeting 100% of these qualifications? If not, what are you missing? If you find that you are missing more than one from the list, then your résumé is not going to be the tool that will land you your job.
