To Apply or Not To Apply: That is the Question

“Can I apply to multiple job openings at one company?”

“Can I apply to a job with my new resume after I already applied and received a rejection?”

These are just two of the most common questions I get asked, and the answer is “It depends” and “Absolutely, yes!”.

When applying to multiple jobs within one company, you must be careful in the type and frequency. Some recruiters may see this as throwing darts in the dark, hoping one sticks. This isn’t the first impression that you want to make. Instead, do a little research through LinkedIn to find a recruiter at the company you are thinking of submitting for multiple roles, and ask them if they recommend applying to all roles you feel you are a fit for or do they draw those lines and automatically refer you to other best-fit roles if not selected for a position.

If you have your resume updated and you’ve already applied for a job and received a rejection with an old resume, you absolutely should reapply with your new resume. My biggest success story for this is a recruiter client who applied for a job at Amazon, received an almost immediate rejection, hired me to help with the resume, reapplied after completing the project, landed an interview, and ultimately accepted her dream job at Amazon.
