How Does Your LinkedIn Profile Measure Up?
Every day, I Iearn new features and best practices regarding LinkedIn. For example, did you know that putting a job title in your experience section that matches a job title already in their database increases your chances of recruiter outreach? Recent videos highlight how these job titles are preferred in recruiter searches.
π€― - but why? I knew this when it came to skills. For example, someone typing in βacademic advisingβ vs. βAcademic Advisingβ (The latter is the hard term embedded in LinkedIn). I ALWAYS choose the searchable skill listed on LinkedIn, so why didnβt I think of that regarding the job title!?
This is why staying updated with the latest advancements, tips, and tricks is important when using a platform like LinkedIn.
Here are some other tips to help you improve your LinkedIn profile visibility:
Build a Resume - but donβt use this feature to build your resume; use it to find what keywords recruiters search for. Read a previous blog where I show you how to use this feature.
Skills can now be added to your About section, just like you add them to your Experience section. Pick your top 5 skills to highlight at the top of your profile.
Turn off βPeople also viewed.β Learn more about how to do that and why in this previous blog post.
Upload a photo (and a banner photo). Profiles with pictures get 21X the profile views!
Update your open-to-work status. Whether you want to let your green banner fly or keep it hidden, adding your target job titles improves profile visibility. (If you are unemployed, put up the green banner.)
Use the d*mn thing! The more you engage on the platform, the more views you get. Donβt treat your profile like an online resume you updateβ¦.never. Treat it like a daily news source and actively engage with others on the platform.
Need additional help? ARC, our new job search tool, can do precisely that. Enter your LinkedIn profile, and you will get an email summary with feedback. Hereβs how it works:
